Location
Alliance House is on Newington Green, which has a variety of local shops, cafes and bars and a pleasant community atmosphere.
Newington Green has grown in popularity with the local multi-cultural community.
Community groups hold fairs on the Green and Neighbourhood Groups organise many events such as the annual Jazz on the Green event. In 2006,
Newington Green won the first of many Green Flag Awards (the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales, sponsored
by Keep Britain Tidy).
This outlying area of Islington carries a surprising wealth of historic architecture and Newington Green has become a conservation area.
On the west side of the Green (numbers 52-55) is London's oldest surviving brick terrace, which is, unsurprisingly, Grade I listed.
This building was a home to the very well known Dr Richard Price (1723-1791) who was a famous preacher and a political pamphleteer.
Dr Price was visited by Founding Fathers of the United States such as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine and John Adams
and also other famous American politicians for advice.
The Green also has another Grade II listed building. Newington Green Unitarian Church, which was built in 1708, where Dr Price spent
most of his adult life as minster.
There are many places to eat, drink and socialise a few popular places are The Nobody Inn that specialises in Thai cuisine and holds
regular quiz nights, The Almer & The Cellars Pub that both serve rustic tasty traditional food. The Gate Cafe Bar to name just a few,
that are literally on the doorstep of Alliance House.
There are regular bus services to central London and the West End.
