SECTION FOUR - MOVING IN
What to do when you arrive

On arrival you will be directed to the residence office front desk for check in. You will be required to sign a copy of your licence agreement and have a photo taken for your ID/entry card.

If you haven't already paid your first instalment you will be directed to a payment desk before you can check in. To avoid queues and delays on move-in day, you can pay your first instalment online at any time prior to arrival at the residence. Once check in is completed you will be given the keys to your room.

What to bring

Check In
For check in you will need to bring some form of ID with you, such as a passport, and a copy of your offer letter/email or payment receipt.

For your room
You will need bed linen, pillows, duvet, sheets, etc. These will be available to purchase at the residence.

For your shared kitchen area
Our residences are self-catering so you will need to bring your own cooking utensils, plates, cutlery, pans etc. Some students wait until they move in and then buy items such as a kettle or toaster together with other students sharing their kitchen.

Rooms and the kitchen areas are fully furnished so you do not need to bring furniture with you. Full details of what is provided in each room and cluster flat is given in on each of the residence pages.

Parking on arrival

An area to park and unload your belongings will be available at our residences. Because of the limited parking space around our residences you will be asked to move any vehicle as soon as you have unloaded.

Questions

Can I arrive before the start of my Licence?

(Start of the academic year only) If you want to arrive before the start of your licence you need to book early arrival accommodation. After you have accepted your place you can book your early arrival stay online in the user area of our website.

Can I have a guest stay with me in my room prior to the start of my Licence?
Can my Friend/Relative stay with me on move in day?

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to allow guests to stay either prior to your licence start date or in the first two weeks of your licence. This is to allow time for students to settle into their new life.

Can I arrive after the start of my Licence?

Yes, but you need to let us know by email if you are going to arrive more than one week later. You will also need to have paid your first instalment before your licence start date. Failure to notify us of late arrival and payment of the first instalment may result in you losing your accommodation.

Can I choose which room I have?

To be fair to every resident, rooms are allocated purely on the basis of mixed sex /single sex flats if appropriate. Rooms are very similar within the residences although there may be slight variations in size and shape. Room swaps during the year are allowed only at the manager's discretion and only if there is a valid reason, such as disharmony among residents within a cluster flat.

Can I bring my own bed or mattress?

If you have a medical certificate stating the reason that you need a special bed or mattress we will consider your request.

Can I send my luggage or redirect post to my accommodation before I move in?

Unfortunately due to lack of storage facilities, health & safety and insurance issues we are unable to receive or store any parcels, post or other items for residents who have not already arrived and checked in to their accommodation.

Can I bring additional furniture such as a bookcase?

Additional furniture is not allowed unless permission is granted by the manager. Bookcases are provided in the rooms but you may be allowed to have another small bookcase of your own. No additional furniture is allowed in the shared kitchen areas due to fire regulations. The manager has to consider the welfare and safety of all residents and their decision is final.

Do I need insurance for my belongings?

A block halls insurance cover is provided by Cover4Students.com and is sufficient for most personal belongings. This is included in the licence fee price. Additional cover for items not covered, such as bicycles, and expensive equipment such as computers, is also available for a separate fee.

Can I have/or bring my bicycle to the residence?

Yes you may. If residents wish to store their bikes onsite, they must adhere to our registration scheme otherwise it may result in the removal & disposal of unregistered bikes. Please see your welcome booklet for further details.
