SECTION TWO - OUR OFFER PROCESS

This section is for SOAS Students

UAL, City, and LSE Students:
We send out offers within two weeks of receiving a nominated list of names from your University. Your University will notify you of the dates when you can expect to receive an offer from us.

How we make offers

SOAS New students who apply before the end of June are considered for the first round of offers which we make in July. Priority is given to International students and students whose permanent address is outside of London. If we receive more than our total capacity we select by date of application and notify the remainder that they will be considered for the second round of offers in August.

SOAS Continuing and returning students are allocated up to 10% of spaces in our SOAS-only residences. Continuers are sent offers in April after their 31st March deadline. Returners are sent offers at the beginning of July. Priority is given to International students and students whose permanent address is outside of London. If we receive applications totalling more than 10% of capacity we select by date of application. Any student who has spent four or more academic terms in one of our residences is not eligible to re-apply for accommodation.

How we send offers

All offers are sent by email to the email address given on your application. When you apply for accommodation you will receive a confirmation email informing you of the dates when offer emails will be sent out. It is important that you notify us of any changes to your email address.

Offer acceptance deadlines

Our offer email will specify a deadline to accept the offer. Accepting an offer requires payment of a booking fee. Full details are given in Section Three - Accepting an offer.

Unsuccessful applications/missed deadlines

We will notify you by email if your application is unsuccessful or if you miss the deadline to accept our offer. The email will give advice on what you can do next to find accommodation, such as registering with University of London Housing Services (ULHS) for listings of private accommodation.

The information below is primarily for SOAS students who have been unsuccessful in their application or have missed the deadlines for continuing and returning students. City, LSE and UAL students are advised to contact their University's accommodation office.

University of London Housing Services (ULHS)
The ULHS should be your first point of contact for alternative student accommodation in London. Their catalogue includes private rented accommodation and residences offered by organisations such as the Goodenough Trust. Full listings of private accommodation and advice about living in London are available on the ULHS website.

Term-time waiting list
When our applications are closed we open a waiting list for any last minute places or vacancies that may become available throughout the year. Any places available due to last minute cancellations will be offered on a first come basis with priority given to students new to London and in particular first time International students. Details of waiting list registration are published on our website just before the start of each academic year.

Questions?

What if I miss the application deadline?
Unfortunately because the number of applications we receive is greater than the places available we are unable to accept applications from continuing or returning students after the deadline has passed.

What if I am on holiday / abroad when your offers are sent out?
Offers are sent by email and require acceptance online so you should be able to receive and accept your offer in most parts of the world. If you are unable to receive emails you could give someone access to your account to check on your behalf or provide us with a different email address. You can update your email address by logging into your user account after you have submitted an application.

Can I live in your accommodation if I am a smoker?
If you smoke you are allowed to live in our residences but you must comply to our complete ban on smoking in all areas. This means that smoking is not permitted in any part of the building including rooms, kitchens, communal areas, courtyards and outside spaces.

What if I want to change my choice of residence?
If you want to change the choice of residence you entered on our application form you can email our accommodation office at student@sanctuary-housing.co.uk. Please note that we are unable to change your choice of residence after an offer has been made.
