Paul Robeson House is a postgraduate residence for SOAS students. It has 252 single en-suite rooms for single students and 7 double en-suite rooms plus 1 one-bedroom flat for student couples. There is a large garden area which is popular with residents who like to study outside or even indulge in a bit of sun-bathing during the summer months!

For the safety and security of residents Paul Robeson House has an entry card system and 24 hour security staff. CCTV is located in and around the building.

Facilities include a common room with TV, DVD and vending machines. For added convenience there is an on-site launderette and bike storage facilities.

All of our residences operate a No Smoking policy throughout the buildings in line with UK Government legislation.

Shared Facilities

Rooms are arranged in cluster flats of five,six, or seven bedrooms. Each flat is self-contained with a shared kitchen and dining area comprising two cookers, two fridges, two sinks, a microwave oven and a freezer.

Ample storage space is provided in the kitchen and each resident has their own food storage cupboard. The kitchen and communal corridor are cleaned on a weekly basis. A vacuum cleaner is provided so residents can clean their own rooms.

The flats have a locked front door and only the residents sharing the flat have a key.

Residents have an individual key to their room. The rooms are study bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower, toilet and basin. A bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe and drawers are provided and there are electrical sockets for residents to use their own computer, reading lamp, radio etc. There is an internet point for a broadband internet service which is provided by Keycom. Bed linen is not supplied but is available for purchase at the residence office, or from the market and shops in nearby Islington.

The rooms vary slightly in size and shape but are generally around 4 metres by 2.5 metres. The windows are approximately 1.4metres by 80 centimeters. The bed and mattress provided are a standard single size of 2metres by 90 centimeters.

In addition to the single rooms, there are seven double rooms, as well as a one bedroom flat reserved exclusively for student couples. The double rooms are larger than the single rooms, having a spacious seating area, and are furnished with twin beds. The one bedroom flat is self-contained.

Paul Robeson House is conveniently located a short walk from both SOAS campuses with main rail, underground and bus links close by. One of London's oldest markets, Chapel Market, is just five minutes walk towards the main Islington shopping area and has a good range of stalls, shops and cafes.

At the end of the market street is a large supermarket, Sainsbury's, where many residents buy their weekly shopping. Opposite Sainsbury's is a shopping centre with several restaurants and high street shops, a VUE cinema and the O2 Academy, which is a popular venue for concerts and club nights. The shopping mall leads on to Islington's Upper Street which has a wide range of restaurants and bars and is always buzzing with life. King's Cross - St. Pancras International rail and underground station is only a couple of minutes walk from Paul Robeson House. From there, you can get to Oxford Street and the centre of the West End in just three stops. There is also a bus stop outside the station with regular buses to Camden Town and its famous weekend market - not to be missed! From St. Pancras International, you can take the Eurostar and reach Paris in under two hours.

Internet Access: A broadband internet service is provided by Keycom. This is included in the rent. Click here for more details.
Television: Access to live television is via the Broadband system. All students will have access to IPTV through our Internet provider and you will need a PC or laptop to watch TV. A TV licence will be needed to watch live television. You can also access the BBC I-player and similar services via the Internet for which you will not need a licence. Internet provision is now free and you will not need to pay extra to watch TV using the Internet.
In the shared kitchens: 2 cookers, 2 fridges, freezer, microwave, 2 sinks, cupboards, table and chairs
Mail: Residents have a key to the letter mailbox for their flat. Parcels are signed for by security staff.
Heating: There are electrical heaters in each study bedroom and storage heating in communal areas. Heating is included in the rent.
Hot water: A central boiler provides hot water throughout the building. This is included in the rent.
Laundry: A communal self-service laundry is provided with washing machines and dryers.
Things to bring with you: Bedding(duvet, sheets, pillows), kettle, kitchen equipment (pots, pans, plates, cutlery) laptop, towels.
Insurance: A block halls insurance cover is provided by Cover4Students.com. This is included in the rent price. Additional cover is also available for a separate fee.
Bikes: If residents wish to store their bikes onsite, they must adhere to our registration scheme otherwise it may result in the removal & disposal of unregistered bikes. Please see your welcome booklet for further details.
